UKYA day is a day in which we celebrate young adult reads written by authors who were either born or live in the UK. Out of the 27 books I’ve read so far this year, 3 were UKYA, but I’m pretty sure I’ve read plenty. Here, in homage to UKYA day, are my top ten favourite UKYA reads.

Patrick Ness is an American born British author who holds a dual passport. He resides in London.

Anthem for Jackson Dawes – Celia Bryce

Celia Bryce was born and raised in Jarrow and still lives in Tyneside. She teaches creative writing.

Before I Die – Jenny Downham

Jenny Downham was born in London.

Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix – J.K Rowling

Joanne Rowling was born in Gloucester and is the UK’s best selling author 

I Capture the Castle – Dodie Smith

Dorothy Gladys Smith was born in Whitefield, Lancashire. 

Life on the Refrigerator Door – Alice Kuiper

Alice Kuiper was born in Britain but now resides in Saskatchewan, Canada.

My Sister Lives on the Mantelpiece – Annabel Pitcher

Annabel Pitcher was born in West Yorkshire

Paper Aeroplanes – Dawn O’Porter

Dawn O’Porter (nee Porter) was born in Scotland and as well as being a writer, she is also a television presenter

The Isobel Journal – Isobel Harrop

Isobel Harrop is an eighteen year old art student from somewhere between Manchester and Liverpool, England

The Northern Lights – Philip Pullman

Philip Pullman was born in Norfolk
